Bootie Top 10 – January/February 2012
As it is every year, it takes a while for us to fire up the ol’ Bootie Top 10 again, since we’re always concerned with getting the annual end-of-the-year Best of Bootie album out to as many people and places as possible.
Then again, it hasn’t helped that there’s been a dearth of decent material in the mashup scene lately. “Current hits vs. current hits” mashups may be all the rage these days, but unfortunately many are what we call “what’s the point” mashups. Where’s the clever genre-clash, era-spanning musical connections, or interesting lyrical counterpoints? Oh right, NOWHERE.
That said, the past few weeks have reinvigorated us, with some of our favorite bootleg producers cranking out some top-notch stuff, and reminding us the scene is still there, and still vibrant. We’ve also included some older “secret weapon” and “forgotten favorites” on this month’s list as well. And since it’s nearly mid-February, we went ahead and made it a Top 15, because … well, because Bootie loves you.
