BOOTIE GOES TO HOLLYWOOD!

BOOTIE – LA’s MONTHLY MASHUP BOOTLEG PARTY – MOVES TO SAFARI SAM’S!
Opening night in Hollywood June 2nd featuring plagiarhythm pioneers The Evolution Control Committee

After nearly two years at The Echo in Echo Park, BOOTIE LA – the Los Angeles sister club to BootieSF, the biggest all-mashup bootleg party in the world – is moving to the Safari Sam’s in Hollywood on Saturday, June 2nd.

Launched in San Francisco in 2003, BOOTIE was the first club night in the United States dedicated solely to the burgeoning artform of the bootleg mashup. These unique tracks – created by DJs and remixers from around the world – combine two or more songs and flawlessly blend them into one singular creation, where the end result is often greater than the sum of its parts. Mixing and matching every conceivable musical genre, era, and style into one big dance party where everyone feels welcome, BOOTIE provides the soundtrack for the A.D.D. generation – with free mashup CDs given away like candy!

Resident DJs ADRIAN, the MYSTERIOUS D, and PAUL V. keep your brain guessing and your feet dancing with creative song combinations, while guest mashup DJs from around the world are featured each month. The infamous midnight mashup show has become a hallmark of the club, often featuring local singers performing live sung mashups.

To celebrate their move to Safari Sam’s, BOOTIE is proud to present the pioneers of the modern-daymashup movement – THE EVOLUTION CONTROL COMMITTEE. Since 1986, The Evolution Control Committee has steadily built a worldwide reputation by creating sample-based music of questionable legality. They have been violating copyright laws since it was difficult, notably incurring the wrath of CBS at their Rocked By Rape Dan Rather musical commentary. The ECC is widely acknowleged as the creators of the first mashup, back in the early ’90s, with The Whipped Cream Mixes featuring Public Enemy vs Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass. Various mashup articles have been acknowledging The ECC for doing it first, earning them the title “Godfather of the Mashup".

But The ECC isn’t just sitting back and trying to milk has-been cred – they are once again breaking new mashup ground with a live mashup show featuring The Wheel Of Mashup. The wheel is actually two wheels: the outer one chooses the music, and the inner one chooses the vocals. The music and vocals are mashed up on the fly. In fact, all of the show’s music is mashed up live, which makes the show more spontaneous and alive than just an ordinary DJ set. It’s a short attention span dream mix – 60 songs mashed into 40 minutes – that’s winning over cynical club audiences - and those with short attentions spans! The ECC will take the stage to start their show at 1030pm sharp.

The evening will also feature a midnight mashup show from LA performance artist Foxy Cotton, and free 10-track Bootie CDs to the first 50 people!

BOOTIE LA happens on Saturday, June 2 at Safari Sam’s, 5214 W. Sunset Blvd. (between Western & Kingsley), Hollywood. AMPLE FREE PARKIING! Doors are at 9 pm. Cover is $6 before 10:30 pm, and $10 after. Ages 21+.
