From PARIS, FRANCE – live on stage – it’s the return of DJ ZEBRA

As the creator of the “Zebramix” show on Oui FM – France’s biggest indie rock radio station – and producer of the very popular Zebramix bootleg parties, DJ Zebra has unquestionably been a driving force in bringing mashups to France. His live mashup set at Bootie last year was legendary, and probably one of the best guest DJ sets we’ve ever had at the club! Zebra engages the crowd, has killer mashups in his arsenal, and really knows how to rock the party.

He’s spent the past summer touring around Europe, playing in front of thousands of people at several huge European summer festivals – and now he’s capping it all off by returning to San Francisco for his third annual appearance!

But before his live on-stage DJ set, he’ll also be showcasing his side project, the Bootlegs Live Band, with DJ Moule – and playing with Smash-Up Derby.

At 10:45 PM SHARP! Mashup the mashup bands!
SMASH-UP DERBY vs. the BOOTLEGS LIVE BAND

French and American relations will take on a whole new meaning this Saturday when Bootie house band SMASH-UP DERBY mashes up their set with the Paris-based BOOTLEGS LIVE BAND, featuring French DJs Zebra and Moule. Their take on the “live mashup band” is markedly different than Smash-Up Derby’s, as they play live instruments to pre-recorded acapella vocal tracks. Members of Smash-Up Derby will join them, and then Zebra and Moule will guest on a couple Derby mashups, mashing up French lyrics with the English ones. Two mashup bands mashing up each other’s mashups – how meta can we get?

From Bordeaux, France, it’s the U.S. debut of DJ MOULE

DJ MOULE has been one of our favorite mashup artists for a while now – there’s probably not a single Bootie party where some of his crowd-pleasing mashups haven’t been dropped – and this Saturday, he’ll be doing it himself, as this popular French DJ makes his American debut. This will be his first show ever in the U.S. and we are excited to have him! He is absolutely one of France’s best bootleg producers and DJs.

We are delighted to host his first American appearance!

UPSTAIRS: return to Bootie’s roots in the CHERRY BAR LOUNGE

We’re gonna party like it’s 2003! Before most people even knew what a “mashup” was, Bootie was held on a Wednesday night at a small, struggling nightclub in SoMA called the Cherry Bar (now Annie’s Social Club). Back then, if we had 150 people there, we were having a good night. But although it may have been small at the time, it was still a helluva lot of fun, with a great crowd of mashup fans. Eventually, we outgrew the space – to say it was hot with 400 people crammed in there would be an understatement – but we still can’t help but feel a little nostalgic about our “roots.”

So this Saturday, in the upstairs room of the DNA Lounge, we’re going to relive those early days, as we do the Cherry Bar Lounge! Your resident DJs ADRIAN & the MYSTERIOUS D, PARTY BEN, and DADA – all of whom were at the very first Bootie party back in 2003 – will only be spinning mashups made before 2005, the ones we used to spin “back in the day.” We’ll be projecting a slide show containing over 2000 club photos taken at Cherry Bar. And if you happen to collect Bootie flyers, we’ll have nearly every old Bootie flyer from the Cherry Bar days there!

Come get a taste of how it all began!

Midnight mashup show: GWENCHAEL JACKFANI & the HOLLABACK ZOMBIES

When LA performer Heathervescent performed this pre-Halloween midnight mashup show at Bootie LA last year, we just knew we had to get her and her crew up to San Francisco! So this month – just in time for Halloween – we are proud to present Gwenchael Jackfani & the Hollaback Zombies. Zombie cheerleaders? All we can tell you about the number is that this shit is B-A-N-A-N-A-S!

As always, we’ve got free Bootie CDs to the first 75 people and its 2 for 1 before 10:30 pm, so get there early!

Live on stage at midnight: THE A+D SHOW
DJs Adrian & the Mysterious present a multimedia mashup extravaganza

In the four years since Bootie started, nearly all of the best mashup talent from around the globe have spun at the party. But there are two esteemed mashup producers who have never spun an on-stage showcase set at Bootie … that is, until now.

This Saturday, DJs Adrian and the Mysterious D – known for their mashups under the moniker A PLUS D – will present “The A+D Show,” a multimedia mashup extravaganza.

This will be no mere DJ set. The duo will showcase their own mashups in a stage show which will combine mashup videos, mashup movie shorts, go-go dancers, and several live performances during their set which will include: live singing, drag performance, an audience sing-along, and even a live Guitar Hero mashup, as well as a couple of surprise numbers. There will be something different for every song in their one-hour on-stage DJ set.

The performances will feature many of the “who’s who” in the SF drag scene, such as Fudgie Frottage, Anna Conda, Peggy L’eggs, Trixxie Carr, Steven Satyricon, Starr Munro, Felicia Fellatio, Carlotta Valdez, and U-Phoria. “The A+D Show” will even have it’s own theme dancers, The Glitter Hotties, featuring Travis D and The Indra.

Also spinning in the Main Mashup Room: Party Ben, DJ John, and Dada

While “The A+D Show” promises to be one of the most unique DJ sets Bootie has ever seen – it wouldn’t be an anniversary party without our other DJs who have helped put San Francisco on the map as “the epicenter of the American mashup scene.”

So we’ve got resident Bootie DJ PARTY BEN, spinning a “best-of” set before and after “The A+D Show,” and DJ JOHN will be doing a very special set at 10:30 PM. And of course, as always, DADA will get the night kicked off with his favorite mashups from the past year.

At 11 pm: SMASH-UP DERBY presents
“Mashups 101: A Short History of the Modern Bastard Pop Movement”

Class is in session! Professors Adrian and Trixxie will be schooling you on mashup culture in a Pop-Up Video format, as SMASH-UP DERBY – still the world’s only live mashup rock band – plays a set featuring the most historically-significant mashups from the past five years. You’ll learn all sorts of important mashup facts and trivia as the band rocks out the songs that have helped shape bastard pop and bootleg culture into what it is today.

Expect some classics, as well as a brand-new one from the band – a live cover of one of Bootie’s most best-loved dance floor hits – a certain Go Home Productions bootleg that recently got an official release!

Upstairs: REMIX ROOM with DJs EARWORM and TRIPP

In the upstairs room, we’ll have local heroes EARWORM (from San Francisco) and TRIPP (from Santa Cruz) rockin’ the laptops with their unique mix of unofficial remixes and covers. Expect to hear old favorites, remixed in new – and unauthorized – ways. This is the other side of bootleg culture, beyond the A+B of most mashups, but still manipulating copyrighted music. Dance to the sound of music piracy!

—————————————————————-
Since it’s our 4-Year Anniversary, we’ve got more surprises in store for you as well! FABBRI will be upstairs, painting a giant pink Bootie skull-and-crossbones. There might be some pirates in the house as well! And as you all know, we always encourage Bootie skulls and crossbones and pirate-wear.

And last, but not least – we’ve got an Anniversary present for you:

We’re giving away FREE 20-track Bootie 4-Year Anniversary CDs to the first 500 people through the door. This annual CD contains mashups from every guest DJ we’ve had at the club over the past year, as well as some of the mashups that have inspired our flyers, all compiled in a continuous mix that’s perfect for your own party!

We’re expecting a big crowd, so get there early. Also, it’s discounted admission – $10 – before 10:30 pm.

We hope to celebrate our 4-Year Anniversary with you this Saturday!

Los Angeles premiere of DJ WiiJ – DJ set using hacking Nintendo Wiimote controllers – starring DJ ! and Miyamoto

This month, live on stage, we are proud to present the LA premiere of a new way of DJing – it’s called WiiJing! Created by DJ ! (pronounced Shift-1), this revolutionary new DJ style uses two hacked Nintendo Wiimotes – the controller from Nintendo’s new videogame system, Wii – to manipulate and control the music in a whole new way!

By hacking into the Wii, he was able to map controls on a PC music program that allows him to DJ using the Wiimotes. He’s calling the technological mashup “WiiJing” and says it will change the way DJing is performed in the future. This new DJ style will have it’s LA premiere on stage at Bootie.

When they had their debut three months ago at club Bootie in San Francisco, it turned out to be one of the best shows we’ve ever had. See for yourself:

And to see how this whole thing works, check this out on YouTube:

DJ ! is one of the members of The Silence Xperiment, the mashup team responsible for last year’s infamous bootleg album, Q-Unit, which mashed up Queen vs. 50 Cent. For this show, he will be showcasing the debut of his new live WiiJ mashup band: MIYAMOTO, which features Super Mario Brothers Mario and Luigi on guitar and keyboard, as well as live video mixing! This is one show you do not want to miss!

Resident DJs Adrian & the Mysterious D and Paul V. on the decks

Your resident Bootie DJs ADRIAN, MYSTERIOUS D and PAUL V. will also be in the house, spinning all your mashed-up favorites, as well as some brand-new bootlegs. To get a taste of some of the mashups we’ll be playing, be sure to tune in to Paul V.’s Smash Mix this Friday at 5:30 pm on Indie 103.1.

As always, we’ve got FREE Bootie mashup CDs for the first 50 people through the door, and get there early – it’s only $6 before 10:30 PM.

See you on Saturday night!

At 9 PM, from Toronto, Canada – mashup producer LOCK3DOWN

We love rock and alternative mashups, and that’s just what Toronto-based bootlegger LOCK3DOWN specializes in, choosing a lot of mashup source material that other producers have completely forgotton about. If you’ve been collecting the monthly Bootie CDs, then you’ve definitely heard some of Lock3down’s work … Sisters of Mercy vs Beastie Boys vs. Gwen Stefani for example. And this Saturday, he’s making a special guest appearance at Bootie at 9 PM to kick the night off in style!

Upstairs: MEGA MADONNA MASHUP ROOM – all Madonna mashups, all night!

It’s such a crazy idea … that it just might work! Madonna mashups have never been in short supply at Bootie … and since it IS Gay Pride month, it seemed like the perfect time to devote the upstairs lounge to the Queen of Pop herself. Madge will be getting the mashup treatment all night, as DJs ADRIAN, JAY-R, and KIDD SYSKO mix and match the many different styles and eras of Madonna, and try not to play a mashup of “Music” every other song! We’ll also have the room decorated with gigantic Madonna posters!

At 11 PM: SMASH-UP DERBY live — featuring guest singer / Bootie door girl YA-YA

You probably only know her as the pretty girl behind the glass who takes your money when you come to Bootie … but did you also know that she’s a fabulous singer? Well tonight, you’re going to find out, as Bootie’s door girl YA-YA takes a break from the ticket booth so she can join house band SMASH-UP DERBY for a few songs, including a little Kelly Clarkson tune you just might know!

A special guest set from Beatmixed.com’s DJ MATT HITE

As the creator of some of Bootie’s best-loved mashups, local Bay Area boy MATT HITE has been long overdue for a guest DJ set on the main floor at DNA Lounge, and this month, we are excited to have him back! Back before other DJs had even thought about using a laptop to DJ, he was already spearheading the digital DJ revolution, and was one of the earliest proponents to use Serato Scratch. He’s also the mastermind behind Beatmixed.com, one of the web’s first mashup/remix blogs.

Midnight mashup show starring ANNA CONDA with FRIEDA LAE and JUANITA FAHITA

ANNA CONDA is one of the hosts and DJs of Charlie Horse, the super-fun and popular Friday night club at The Cinch – and this month, she returns to the Bootie stage for the midnight mashup show. She’ll have her sisters FRIEDA LAE and JUANITA FAHITA in tow, as they perform a mashed-up take on Blondie’s “Heart of Glass.” Don’t miss it!

Resident Bootie DJ MYSTERIOUS D will be throwing down all your favorite mashups throughout the night, and PARTY BEN will be doing a special late night set for your dancing pleasure. And since Lock3down will be kicking the night off at 9 PM, our resident opening set DJ DADA will be doing a very special dance set at 10 PM. After all these years, he finally gets his due! Come show him some love!

We’ve got free Bootie CDs to the first 50 people, and it’s 2 for 1 before 10:30 pm, so get there early!

Tune in to the live web cast or join us in Second Life!

As always, we’ll be webcasting live from the DNA Lounge. To tune in, click on over to HERE.

And for those in Second Life, please join us at The Parkade on Motorati Island for Bootie SL. Click HERE.

See you on Saturday!
