OMFG, LA!
We are still reeling from the amazing turnout and vibe from last Saturday night’s BOOTIE LA party! You guys braved the rain and helped make our return to The Echo completely off the hook – over 500 people had a blastand danced up a storm! Click on the photos above to check out all the action…
Aman-About-Town, from Going.com, blogged about it, and posted these hot photos.
Of course, Joe from Drunkrockers.com was there as well, taking a TON of awesome photos that really capture the night. Check out all the eye candy here.
The Awesome That Is Josh also wrote a really great blog about the night… you can read it here.
Damn, we suck.
It feels like we haven’t updated this Bootie Blog in over a month – oh, right, that’s because we haven’t.
Ever since we got back from doing Bootie BRC at Burning Man at the beginning of September, it feels like all we’ve been doing is trying to play “catch-up.”
Bootie LA happened without us over Labor Day weekend. DJs Paul V. and Party Ben held it down for us.
Bootie SF with Seattle guest DJ Freddy, King of Pants, was a post-playa blur, compounded by the fact that both us were fighting off bronchitis at the time.
Bootie NYC got postponed due to the fact that our venue in Manhattan was (and is) still closed for renovations – do venues ever get remodelled in a timely manner? But even that break didn’t get us caught up.
This month, we’re helping launch Bootie Munich in Germany. And Bootie Paris is going well … our friend and fellow bootlegger, DJ BC from Boston, even got to spin there this past month, and we must say, we were jealous he got to play there before we did! But it’s looking like we’ll be there in January – a great time to travel Europe (well, at least for cheap flights!)
Anyway, we’re back in LA this weekend, ready to rock the decks at Safari Sam’s. It’s been two months since we’ve been there and we’ve missed it! We’ve got guest DJ Mr. M from Miss Kitty’s in the house as well … so if you’re in SoCal, come on out!
We threw two Bootie mashup parties at Burning Man this past year, one at Fandango and the other at Outpost AutoSub, and both were a blast! You can check out all the photos HERE.
We are now so far behind in posting the Bootie Top 10 – our monthly list of our favorite mashup downloads – that we’ve now ended up missing the month of September entirely. DOH!
We were going to set a new rule for ourselves, and start posting on the 1st of every month – sure, some tracks on the list won’t be quite as “right now,” but at least this way, many of the tracks will have been “floor-tested” at each of the Bootie parties from the previous month.
Of course, it’s now October 4th, and we still haven’t posted the Top 10 yet. Like I said, we suck. We’re still arguing about a few of them, and frankly, there haven’t been very many “wow” tracks recently. But anyway, sit tight. The Bootie Top 10 is coming soon.
As well as the long-awaited Bootie podcast! Stay tuned…
And because it’s our birthday, we’re planning a special present for YOU: FREE Bootie 2-Year Anniversary CDs for the first 300 people through the door!
We’ve got all kinds of exciting things in store for this very special occasion, not the least of which is – direct from San Francisco – a special set from Smash-Up Derby, the world’s only mashup rock band!
We may even have a BOOTIE birthday cake for you to share! And that’s not all … see all the details below!
This is an exclusive 20-track compilation featuring mashups from every DJ who has played at Bootie over the past year, a couple tracks from the midnight mashup shows, as well as a couple that have inspired our flyer images. This continuous-mix is jam-packed with mashup goodness – it’s an instant Bootie party in your car stereo or boombox!
To celebrate our anniversary, we are proud to present the world’s only mashup rock band … SMASH-UP DERBY!Fronted by DJ Adrian and SF chanteuse Trixxie Carr, Smash-Up Derby is the resident house band at Bootie in San Francisco, where they were recently voted “Best Cover Band” in the SF Weekly Readers Poll, and have even been blurbed about nationally in the Washington Post. The band has spent the past couple months playing showcase sets in New York City, Philadelphia, and Denver – but this is their first LA show in a year! Some of the tracks you’ll hear this Saturday include: “Tricky Sandman,” “Talking Franz,” and “Girls Just Want Bloody Sunday.”
Also coming down from San Francisco, we’ve got special guest DJ PARTY BEN in the house – one of the best mashup producers in the country. To get a taste of the kind of dance floor magic this guy’s responsible for, check out his latest mashup – one of our favorites so far this summer – Rihanna vs. General Public – Tender Umbrella.
PAUL V. and ADRIAN & the MYSTERIOUS D are ready to tear up the dancefloor for this special Anniversary event! We’ll be playing this past year’s favorites, as well as some new hot gems. To get a taste of some of the mashups we’ll be playing, be sure to tune in to Paul V.’s Smash Mix this Friday at 5:30 pm on Indie 103.1.
See you on Saturday night!
This Saturday, we say good-bye to Echo Park and make our long-awaited move to Hollywood!
Join us for our grand opening at Safari Sam’s!
Please join us for opening night at Bootie LA’s new home, Safari Sam’s. Many of you had been asking us to move closer to Hollywood, so when you people talk – Bootie LA listens. Safari Sam’s has a great reputation, and we’re very excited to have teamed up with them to bring you the best mashup dance party in LA. We’ve got lots of great entertainment lined up in the next few months, but there’s nothing like an opening night party, so we hope to see you there!
To celebrate our move to Safari Sam’s, we are proud to present what many consider the pioneers of the modern-day mashup movement – THE EVOLUTION CONTROL COMMITTEE. Since 1986, The ECC has steadily built a worldwide reputation by creating sample-based music of questionable legality. Long before the sampler and computers made it easy, The ECC was violating copyright laws the hard way. They are widely acknowleged as the creators of the first mashup, back in the early ’90s, with The Whipped Cream Mixes, featuring Public Enemy vs. Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass. Various press articles have acknowledged The ECC as the “Godfather of the Mashup”.
The ECC is once again breaking new mashup ground with a live mashup show featuring The Wheel Of Mashup. The wheel is actually two wheels: the outer one chooses the music, and the inner one chooses the vocals. Audience members are brought up on stage to spin the wheel, and the music and vocals are mashed up on the fly. In fact, all of the show’s music is mashed up live, which makes the show more spontaneous and alive than an ordinary DJ set. It’s a short attention span dream mix – 60 songs mashed into 40 minutes.
Don’t miss this rare live performance – The ECC goes on at 10:30 PM SHARP!
Your resident Bootie DJs ADRIAN & the MYSTERIOUS D and DJ PAUL V. will be on the decks all night, spinning all your favorite mashup bootlegs, as well as a few brand-new tracks.
To get a taste of some of the mashups we’ll be playing, be sure to tune in to Paul V.’s Smash Mix this Friday at 5:30 pm on Indie 103.1.
Midnight mashup show: LA’s own FOXY COTTON
For our first midnight mashup show on the big stage at Safari Sam’s, we are happy to feature LA performance artist FOXY COTTON – who, while living in San Francisco, was our resident performer at our Mini-Bootie parties. He was also the mastermind behind last year’s mini rock-opera version of the Dean Gray – American Edit bootleg album, and he knows how to put on a show!
Of course, it wouldn’t be Bootie without free mashup CDs – so as usual, we’ll have this month’s new 10-track Bootie CD for the first 50 people through the door! (And sure, maybe a few more to give away at midnight.)
But if you really want one, be sure to get there early – and remember, it’s also only $6 before 10:30 PM!
We hope to see you this Saturday!
We’ll be celebrating Cinco de Mayo at Bootie this Saturday, so we’ve got a few Latin-themed mashups to play, and we can guarantee you’ll be dancing to “Tequila” at least once! And to help us celebrate Cinco de Mayo, we are proud to showcase an encore performance by Mexican drag queen KAY SEDIA!
Expect lots of Cinco de Mayo decorations and celebrations this Saturday night!

From Seattle’s mashup club FrankenBOOT, it’s DJ FREDDY, KING OF PANTS
This month, we are proud to feature DJ Freddy, King of Pants, creator of FrankenBOOT, Seattle’s original all-mashup bootleg party. Freddy has been rockin’ Seattle with mashups for over two years now, and has spun amazing sets at Bootie parties in both San Francisco and New York City. This will be his first time spinning in LA and we are excited to have him! Check out his tracks and you’ll be able to hear what a fun dancefloor set this guy can spin!
He’s even promised a special new Cinco de Mayo bootleg!
After taking last month off, resident DJs ADRIAN & the MYSTERIOUS D are back, joining DJ PAUL V. on the decks to spin all your favorite mashups, as well as some brand-new tracks. To get a taste of some of the mashups we’ll be playing, be sure to tune in to Paul V.’s Smash Mix this Friday at 5:30 pm on Indie 103.1.
This month’s midnight mashup show will feature the debut Bootie performance by DARWIN, who will be singing a live mashup.
As usual, we’ll have this month’s new 10-track Bootie CD to the first 50 people through the door! Get there early to nab one – and remember, it’s also 2-for-1 before 10:30 PM!
And finally, we have good Bootie news we will be sharing with you guys this Saturday … we can’t make the announcement just yet … but let’s just say … don’t miss this Saturday at The Echo!
