Bootie Top 20 – March/April 2011

Posted in Mashup Downloads, Top10 on March 16th, 2011 by Adrian

We were gonna try to rally to get a Top 10 done before leaving for a week of Carnaval in Rio de Janeiro (where we played Bootie Rio) but since we’d been so busy and sleep-deprived getting ready for THAT, we opted to sleep on the plane instead. Now it’s already mid-March and since we’ll be heading back to Brazil in early April to help launch Bootie São Paulo, we figured we might as well just go crazy and make this a Bootie Top 20, since we know we’re not going to have another Top 10 ready in time for April Fool’s Day!

Not only that, but we added a few extras as there were a lot of “topical” mashups and “compare-and-contrast” double shots we wanted to post, including a 4-pack of Brazilian mashups inspired by our travels.

A Plus D – I Keep Forgettin To Regulate (Warren G. & Nate Dogg vs. Michael McDonald) – San Francisco
With Nate Dogg’s sad passing yesterday, we just HAD to include this. THIS is how they SHOULD have made “Regulate” (except maybe they didn’t want to pay Michael McDonald for more than a 10-second song loop). Inspired by “Yacht Rock,” Episode 7.  Rest in peace, master of the G-Funk.

Totalcult – Fire-Breathing Fists (Charlie Sheen vs. Cypress Hill) – Birmingham, UK
Even Bootie can’t escape the Charlie Sheen crazy-pants media blitz! All of Charlie’s best sound bites, smartly mashed with “Insane In The Brain.” Winning, duh!

The Hood Internet – Sprawl Of Glass (Arcade Fire vs. Blondie) – Chicago
With Arcade Fire’s surprising win of “Album of the Year” at last month’s Grammy Awards, we just had to include this, courtesy of The Hood Internet. DAMN, this is a gorgeous mashup!

DJ Tripp – Express This Way (Lady Gaga vs. Madonna) – Santa Cruz, CA
DJs From Mars – Knock This Way (Lady Gaga vs. Amii Stewart) - Torino, Italy
DJ Tyme & Nathan Scot – Born This Way In The U.S.A. (Lady Gaga vs. Bruce Springsteen) – San Francisco
The release of Lady Gaga’s new single, “Born This Way,” was predictably a smash hit across the globe, so we’ve included three very different mashup variations. The first, released by DJ Tripp mere hours after the original dropped, showcases just how much Lady Gaga “borrowed” from Madonna’s “Express Yourself.” The second is a disco-infused club banger from the always-dependable DJs From Mars (who will be playing Bootie SF, LA and Rio in May!) And the last one is a cheeky, old-school A vs. B, and what it lacks in polish it makes up for in sheer genre-clashed (and lyrically-related) ridiculousness.

A Plus D – Sou Foda Time (Os Avassaladores vs. Black Eyed Peas) – San Francisco
A Plus D – We R Who We Tamborzao (Ke$ha vs. DJ Amazing Clay) – San Francisco
We made two new mashups for our gig at Bootie Rio. The first features a hilarious Brazilian rap song “Sou Foda” that became a surprising internet meme, while the second turns Ke$ha into the singer of a baile funk song. Speaking of Brazil — if you’re near São Paulo, we’ll be back there on April 7 to open a brand new Bootie!

Faroff – Brazilian Star Wars (John Williams vs. Danzel) – Brasilia / Los Angeles
João Brasil – One More Batucada (Daft Punk vs. Sergio Mendes) – Rio de Janeiro / London
Having now experienced the epic pageantry of Rio’s Carnaval parades, we’ve come away with a new appreciation of samba, and these two mashups were the soundtracks to both Bootie Rio’s and Bootie SF’s Midnight Mashup Shows this past month, which featured bootie-licious samba dancers! Faroff will be spinning with us next month at Bootie LA, while João Brasil is Bootie Berlin‘s special guest DJ this Friday (and will also be playing with us at the second Bootie London party on April 22.

DJ Dave Share – Catch Em And Hold It (Britney Spears vs. Busta Rhymes) – Orange County
Titus Jones – Hold Your Sexy Arms Against Me (Britney Spears vs. Cutting Crew vs. Pink vs. David Guetta feat. Akon vs. Taylor Swift) – Nashville
Britney was the OTHER big pop diva to drop a new single, so here are two of ‘em for you: One for the bros and dudes, with Busta droppin’ rhymes to give the song some tough “street cred,” and another for the girls and gays, with its divalicious house beats. The former was also the first single from Titus Jones’ excellent new mashup album, “Culture Shock.”

Dan Mei & Marc Johnce – Whip Your Hands Outta My Dream Hell Bottle (Avril Lavigne vs. The Ting Tings vs. Kylie Minogue vs. Katy Perry vs. Willow Smith vs. The Police) – Denmark / Germany
This mega-mashup of six artists is pure, puréed fun – to quote New York Post’s Ryan Brockington, it’s “pop throwing up on pop.” This track has made quite a splash, and was also given the nod by Kylie herself — who tweeted it to her followers. How’s that for credentials?

Alexis Von Fierce – Salt Air on Mars (Bruno Mars vs. Chew Lips vs. Two Door Cinema Club) – San Francisco
Making a Bootie Top 10 debut here, Alexis Von Fierce takes Bruno Mars’ sentimental ballad and gives it an indie-electro makeover, perfect for the dance floor.

Titus Jones – College Is Crazy (Asher Roth vs. Britney Spears vs. Beyoncé vs. Gnarls Barkley) – Nashville
Titus Jones’ mashup album “Culture Shock” may be our favorite mashup album of the year (that is, until “Best of Bootie 2011″ gets released!) So we couldn’t resist including a second track from the album, especially since we always had a soft spot for Asher Roth’s “I Love College.” This is definitely one of our favorites from the album. Well done, Titus!

DJ Kue – Black and Yellow (DJ Kue Remix) (Wiz Khalifa vs. DJ Kue) – San Jose, CA
This bootleg remix goes out to our LA friend and host Brian — aka “The Bootie LA Office” — who also happens to be a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Sorry ’bout the Super Bowl, dude. But at least this electro-banger brings it.

Divide & Kreate – Crazy In The Deep (Adele vs. Gnarls Barkley) - Stockholm, Sweden
Here’s one for the Europeans and the ahead-of-the-curve Americans (okay, we’ll say it… the gays!) Adele hasn’t quite hit it big in the U.S. the way she has across the pond, but that still hasn’t stopped us from loving it, and dropping it in our early sets.

Mighty Mike – Waiting In Heaven (The Cure vs. Bob Marley) – France
Neither one of us are huge fans of reggae, but we’re both longtime fans of The Cure. This track brings a new light to reggae beats for us, and adds a special chilled-out beauty to The Cure.

DJ Lobsterdust - G6 Kids (Far East Movement vs. MGMT) – New York City
DJ Shyboy – Like A B.I.G.6 (Notorious B.I.G. vs Far East Movement) – Los Angeles
With “Like A G6″ fast approaching its expiration date (and perhaps past it), we figured we better post these — both big hits on the Bootie dance floor — before its too late!
